What should I wear to a formal wedding? Where is a great place to buy a classy yet sexy dress?

I have never attended a wedding that is so elegant and formal before. I would like to look classy as well as sexy. I was thinking about a black dress with pearls and open toe heals. Any suggestions? By the way I'm 30 years old and like to be trendy :)What should I wear to a formal wedding? Where is a great place to buy a classy yet sexy dress?
Wedding ettiquette is very tricky. Unless the wedding is after 6pm, Black is VERY inappropriate. Remember - this is the brides day, not yours. Black at the wedding can be taken to mean you disapprove of the match and are being subtle. Even for an evening wedding, I've find a jewel tone that looks good with your skin tone.

Go to any High end department store, like Macy's or Saks or Nordie's. They will have someone who can help you pick out the perfect dress. Remember to tall them the time of the wedding and that it is formal. Also mention if it's in a garden of a church or someone's house - that makes a difference.

My final suggestion is that if you want sexy, go ultra feminine. Gauzy, flowing materials with a fairly form fitting cut - spaghetti straps or strapless. Full length. Wear comfortable shoes - hopefully you'll be dancing till dawn with a handsome fellow party goer! Hair up and light and wispy. light make up. Understate - go girl next door. You want people to think your not really trying because it's curteous to your friend to let her be the most beautiful woman in the room. Don't try to detract fromt he wedding party. What should I wear to a formal wedding? Where is a great place to buy a classy yet sexy dress?
I would stick to a lighter color, maybe a blue or pink, if it's a daytime wedding. As another user said, black is an inappropriate color to wear to a wedding unless the ceremony is in the evening. Look into a cocktail or tea-length dress in a lighter color with a nice shawl or sweater. The pearls and open shoes sound adorable with a classy dress. Try Ann Taylor Loft, Macy's, Windsor, or Express.
By formal,do you mean black tie,an evening event?

Good stores to try are Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Nordstroms, as well as Barney's ,Bergdorf Goodman's and Wilkes Bashford. Just tell the salesperson what time the event is so she can give some suggestions.

Typically, for a more formal evening wedding, long or short evening appropriate dresses or pantsuits are fine. Your ensemble sounds quite appropriate to me,but there are some people who feel black is not appropriate for a wedding(you can always ask some one in the bridal party).
And if you dont have enough cash to buy clothes at these places, you could take the suggestions given to you by the workers at Macy's and N.Marcus (and if the clearance rack doesn't do it for you), and go to Forever 21 and build a great wardrobe that way. For makeup suggestions, try to go the the M.A.C counter, they are geniuses
